Social media on a smartphone

It is tempting to treat Canada as an extension of the US market. It is not. Canadians search with different spellings and terms, shop at different retailers, care about different seasons and expect brands to respect French and multicultural communities.

Canada is also smaller and more spread out. Five time zones, a handful of large cities and long distances mean local targeting and regional nuance matter a great deal, and national campaigns often need provincial adjustments.

We work with Canadian SMEs, e-commerce brands, professional services firms, home services companies, real estate teams, clinics and tech companies, helping them grow without wasting budget on strategies built for somewhere else.

Privacy, anti-spam and language rules in Canada

Commercial email, SMS and other electronic messages fall under Canada鈥檚 Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which requires express or implied consent, identification and an easy unsubscribe. Personal data is governed by PIPEDA federally, and Quebec鈥檚 Law 25 adds stricter requirements, including consent for tracking technologies and privacy impact assessments. We build consent and tracking to match.

In Quebec, the Charter of the French Language requires French in commercial advertising, websites and product information, with French at least as prominent as other languages. Advertising claims must also follow the Competition Act, including rules on misleading pricing and environmental claims. We plan bilingual campaigns and review claims before launch.

Market insight

01

French is not optional in Quebec. Quebec鈥檚 language law requires French in commercial advertising, websites and product information for businesses operating there. Beyond compliance, French-language campaigns reach millions of customers many competitors ignore.

02

CASL changes email marketing. Canada鈥檚 Anti-Spam Legislation requires consent before sending commercial electronic messages, with significant penalties for breaches. Email and SMS programs must be built on clean consent.

03

Multicultural audiences are mainstream. Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary have large South Asian, Chinese, Filipino and other communities. Language-specific campaigns in Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese or Tagalog can perform exceptionally well.

04

Smaller audiences, higher costs in some categories. Canadian audiences are smaller than in the US, but competitive categories like real estate, law and finance still have high click costs. Precision matters.

Seasonality

Canadian seasons and holidays differ from the US in important ways.

  1. January to early March

    RRSP season

Financial advisers, banks and investment platforms peak before the contribution deadline.

  2. March to April

    Tax season

Accountants and tax services peak before the end of April.

  3. 1 July

    Canada Day

Summer kicks off with national celebrations and promotions.

  4. Summer

    Cottage and patio season

Outdoor living, travel, hospitality and home improvement peak.

  5. October

    Canadian Thanksgiving

Earlier than in the US. Food, travel and family gatherings.

  6. November

    Black Friday

Increasingly big in Canada, with cross-border competition.

  7. 26 December

    Boxing Day

One of Canada鈥檚 biggest retail days, often bigger than Black Friday for some categories.

Common challenges

Patterns we hear from businesses across the country.

  • 01

US strategies that do not fit

Agencies apply US playbooks that miss Canadian search habits and seasons.

  • 02

    French as an afterthought

Machine-translated French puts off Quebec customers and risks non-compliance.

  • 03

    CASL uncertainty

Email lists of unclear origin create real legal risk.

  • 04

    Small audience fatigue

Regional audiences saturate quickly without creative refreshes.

Working together

Canadian context, compliance and clear numbers.

  • English and French

Native French for Quebec and francophone audiences, not machine translation.

FAQ

Have a question that is not covered here?

Ask us directly

How much does a digital marketing agency cost in Canada?

It depends on scope, channels, languages and competition. Our clients typically get senior work for less than comparable Canadian agency retainers. Ad spend is separate. We send a fixed-scope proposal in CAD after a short discovery call.

Do you create French content for Quebec?

Yes. Native French writers create content, ads and websites for Quebec and francophone audiences.

Are your email and SMS campaigns CASL compliant?

We build consent capture, identification and unsubscribe into every program. For legal certainty on your situation, we recommend confirming with your legal adviser.

Can you target multicultural communities?

Yes. We create campaigns in Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog and other languages for relevant audiences.

Do you work outside Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary?

Yes. We work with businesses in Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Mississauga, Brampton, Halifax and across Canada.

How do time zones work?

Our working day overlaps your early morning. We schedule calls at times that suit you, and work progresses overnight.

Our process

Seven steps in four phases, the same for every client, whether you are a single clinic or a national brand.

  1. Discover
    Step 01

    Discovery

A conversation about your business, goals, customers, margins and what you have tried before. We also get access to your analytics, ad accounts and website so we can see the real numbers.

  2. Step 02

    Research

Competitor analysis, keyword and audience research, a technical review of your site and a look at how your current channels perform. This usually takes one to two weeks.

  3. Plan
    Step 03

    Strategy

A written plan covering priorities, channels, budget split, timelines and the KPIs we will be measured on. You approve it before anything goes live.

  4. Build
    Step 04

    Execution

Tracking setup, website fixes, content production, campaign builds and creative. You get a shared timeline so you always know what is in progress.

  5. Step 05

    Launch

Campaigns and pages go live in a controlled way, with tracking verified first. We watch the first days closely and fix issues fast.

  6. Grow
    Step 06

    Measurement

Weekly checks and a monthly report that ties marketing activity to leads, sales and cost. No vanity metrics without context.

  7. Step 07

    Optimization

We double down on what works, fix or cut what does not and test new ideas each month. Growth comes from this loop, repeated consistently.
